DJI Spark First Impressions

The DJI Spark is the latest drone to be introduced by drone maker extraordinaire DJI. It is the very first mini drone to be introduced by DJI.

The Spark features quick launch with face aware, simple hand control gestures, tap fly direction and active track. 

Five different colors are available for the Spark

                                            Green

                                            Yellow

                                                  Red

                                             Blue

There's a 2 axis mechanical gimbal that has a 12 megapixel camera that can shoot 1080p and high resolution photos. DJI stated a 16 minute maximum flight time, a top speed of 31 mph (sport mode) and a 1.2 mile range (using the remote).  It has state of the art Flight Autonomy System with 3D sensing, dual band GPS, high precision inertial measurements, and 24 computing cones that will help to detect objects and avoid The along with the ability to safely land in your hand. 

Watching the flight demo with hand gestures was amazing. No smartphone just hand gestures. And you can use hand gestures to take pictures.

DJI has incorporated into the updated DJI Go App the ability from the Spark to put together a video with music - all this without having to download it to your PC. 

One of the things I really like is the ability to charge the Spark with the battery already in it. 

The Spark is available for pre order at $499 and the fly more combo is $699 and includes the remote, propeller guards, quick release folding propellers, extra battery, case, Spark battery charging hub.

I studied hard and passed my FAA Part 107 Exam and am a licensed sUAS pilot which enables me to fly commercially. Whether I fly my drone professionally or recreationally, I take drone safety seriously.

"Seize The Moment" - Two New DJI Drones ?

DJI is having an event called "Seize The Moment"  in New York City on 5/24/2017

It is a well known fact that the "DJI Spark" will be announced. There are a number of pictures available but no detailed specifications. All that we know for sure is that it will be the smallest drone to date made by DJI.

A rumor that has been circulating around the drone community is that DJI is also going to introduce a "Standard" version of the DJI Mavic called the "Mavic Standard". What is known is from these pictures from the FCC website showing a proposed label location with the label "Model M1S".

Exciting news !

I have just posted my second YouTube Review - DJI Mavic Must Have Accessories - Part 1.

In Part 1 of this video you can see how the landing gear attaches to the DJI Mavic and provides clearance for the gimbal and how the landing pad gives the DJI Mavic a smooth surface to take off from and land on. You can see why these are two must have accessories for the DJI Mavic.
